“You should also write something about our country, why it is famous? Talk about culture, heritage, natural beauty……”

When my uncle suggested me this, where to start from, was the first question in my mind !!

  • Then after exploring various options i chose to start with a place Taregana which is 30 kms south of Patna, capital of Bihar. Aryabhatt (476-550 AD) used to study stars here and this place has been selected to be the best place to view the celestial activities even today !!
  • Charak rishi whose contribution to medical science is invaluable. The book Charak Sahinta makes whole world indebted of his work.
  • Ramanujan (1887-1920 AD), the great Indian Mathematician whose originality in solving math problems perplexed many mathematicians at that time and even continue to do so today !!
  • Ashok Pillar in New Delhi, built in 912 BC has strong anti corrosive properties. Even today world still awaits such quality of corrosion resistant materials.

Coming to Literature and Religion

  • Ramayan and Mahabharat ( ‘geeta’ included ) are the worlds most detailed and interesting literary works which are in themselves huge knowledge repository. These were written a long time ago and still present today with little changes from original works. This model or process of transforming tradition to coming generations is unique, powerful and a very successful one.
  • Swami Vivekanand when in Chicago 1893 religious conference spoke, the world remained spellbound !! He talked about India which is place of origin of religion that is base for all religions.
  • Gangotri (Origin place of river Ganga ) and Yamnotri (Origin place of river Yamuna ), mountains, flowing rivers, serene beauty of river banks,   these are places not only of religious importance but spiritual significance along with science also. This will require a separate post….. which will be coming soon….

Economy

  • Historical statistics by Angus Maddison prove that India’s share in world income was about 30% !! And this sharply started to reduce when British were trying to civilize a civilization that existed as developed civilization for thousands of years !!
  • The image the British portrayed of Indians was all false. But India can never give up and just after 65 years of independence it is 4th largest economy in world.

Heritage

  • When Barack Obama visited Humayu’s Tomb, i remember one of news anchor reporting “How would he be feeling, this structure dates back even when America didn’t exist”.
  • The forts, monuments in India stand tall. They have witnessed Indian history for more than thousand years. To name few, there are temples like, Tirupati Balaji in South India , Somnath in Gujarat, Pushkar (Brahmaji Temple) in Rajasthan etc. There are forts in Rajasthan, UP etc. The list is endless……………

These are just few drops in ocean of the greatness of India. I cannot do justice with India in a single post and hence will continue this as a part of series trying my best to capture the greatness and express in words.
