Imagine if plants start focusing only on their food (input – Carbon di-oxide) and start considering their excreta (output – oxygen) as “waste” to be disposed off in some drainage system rather than air?
We human beings became so selfish and anthropocentric (following the bible and science- that god has given dominion over nature) that we never paid attention on our output and responsibilities towards nature. Below are the activities that we need to pay attention-
- The human excreta is input for soil and plants to grow. We became so self-centric (anthropocentric) that we started using detergents and soaps; our excreta got mixed with that and became insoluble. This then got transported to rivers through drainage system, polluting the rivers.
- Next are the peels of the vegetables and fruits which humans do not consume. These are input for soil, plants and animals. We dispose of these in plastic bags and then to dumping grounds with support from municipality.
- Dead leaves which are again input for plants and soil, we collect them and put fire or dump that along with other non-biodegradable materials.
- We have also created hurdles for animals in performing their duties towards nature. The cemented roads, interlocking tiles and furnished places on which if animals do their excreta on it does not gets mixed with soil. Bounded by nature, they excrete on roads etc which then creates “unhygienic” situation for human and then municipality sanitizes the animals themselves off the cities !
- The carbon di-oxide we exhale is input for plants, which we do not have any option but to exhale in air.
The list continues…
Hence we (especially Bharatiya people) need to be more conscious of our day to day activities and do not get carried away by anthropocentric (biblical / christian / scientific) definitions of hygiene, modes of interaction of with nature and processes to be followed for the same. In short we have to rethink our overall approach to life based on Bharatiya wisdom.
